Background:
Sixty years ago, in 1958, the first International Bible Contest was held in Israel. It was part of the celebrations that marked 10 years since the founding of the State of Israel and David Ben-Gurion, the Prime Minister at the time, stated that the contest was the most meaningful and formative event of the festivities. In hosting the International Bible Contest, he saw a prophetic and significant sign that symbolized the return of Israel to its land and the fulfilment of the visions of Biblical prophets. In the past several years, the feeling is growing that other countries are also looking for a message, direction and path and yet are not able to find it.
We believe that the Bible can be the message that the world is waiting for. The Bible is the foundational text from which Western culture derives its ethos and basis. We are confident that the Bible Contest will provide value to believers in South Africa, that they will unite around the Book of books, which will return to shine light on the nation of South Africa. We are excited to play a part in the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy that: “out of Zion shall the Torah come forth, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”
